I’m so stoked about the upcoming release of Blender! Honestly this major revision might as well be called Blender 3. I’ve been using the beta for a while now and it’s honestly the best 3D experience I’ve had.

The UI is completely overhauled making it 200% more user-friendly. Happy to finally see the illogical menus on both sides of the 3D viewport gone.
A new real-time render engine called “EEVEE” (Extra Easy Virtual Environment Engine). I haven’t got around to trying it out yet. Before EEVEE, I was actually planning on trying out Unreal.

If I’m not mistaken, there’s also a new displacing method in Cycles like the one in OctaneRender that doesn’t rely on subdivisions.
This also means that, in a few days, I would no longer need to install from AUR/compile Blender 2.8 myself when I’m using Arch, hurray!
Everything is just so much better, however, this update doesn’t solve all my problems with the program.

One of my bigger issue is still how Blender deals with text fonts.
Some logic and behaviors are still really still annoying too, for example, when I try to delete something that’s hidden, it doesn’t actually get deleted.
This is already a big step up from the previous versions, in the future, I look forward to seeing more procedural modelling tools like the ones in SideFX Houdini and more MoGraph tools like the ones in MAXON Cinema 4D. A lot of these can be achieved with addons like Animation Nodes but it’s still a hassle.
It’s nice but all my old laptops don’t run open gl 3.3 . time for some newer kit
